At Alexandria Carbon Black (ACB), we are committed to conducting our business in a socially and ethically responsible manner. We conform to all the requirements of social accountability (SA 8000) Standard and respect the international instrument for social accountability and comply with all national laws.

We have been recognised as good corporate citizens by the government and multilateral agencies. Through regular participation in community welfare programmes for health and education, the company has won the confidence of its people and received several certificates of Honour from His Excellency Governor of Alexandria. ACB has adopted four orphanages (for food, clothes, medical and educational expenses), a Mother Teresa House (for old age people) and has donated facilities for 'ACB Intensive Care Unit' at the local children's cancer hospital.

ACB Medical Centre
The medical services provided by ACB have become much sought after. During certain cases of emergency; residents from the neighbouring areas / villages reach out for ACB's Medical Centre's assistance even during an unscheduled time.

CSR Projects
The CSR projects carried out by the company in 2010 are:

  1. Group Wedding for seven orphan couples from Nahada village and Amreya, attended by over 250 invitees, including the Chairman of Local Assembly and Parliament members.
  2. Orphan's Day, hosting 60 orphans from the neighbouring villages, who spent the whole day at the plant.
  3. Football Tournament in Abu Simbel Youth Centre to facilitate and promote sports culture among the youth of the community.
  4. Two 'Family Planning' campaigns during October and November 2010 for the neighbouring area residents.
  5. Donations during the occasion of the New Hijri Year, among needy people in nearby villages. A bag containing provision, different kinds of food items, a pie, grilled chicken and a pack of Hijri New Year sweets were distributed among the needy.
  6. Additional remedial classes for students for exams; services and materials including medicated detergent to prevent H1N1 infections and to maintain clean environment at El Khaledeen School. At the beginning of the School Year in September 2010, ACB distributed 1000 school bags containing books, pencils, pens, pencil case to students of El Karnak School, El Khaledeen School and SOS Orphanage.
  7. During the fasting month of Ramadan, Ramadan Bags containing food materials were distributed among needy people in nearby villages. A Food Tent was arranged for distributing free meals among poor people, during the whole month of Ramadan.
  8. On the occasion of the New Year, blankets were distributed among the needy people and neighbours around the company.
