Head, Global Technology

Dr. Zachary Combs is the Head, Global Technology, Birla Carbon, and is based at the Company headquarters in Marietta, Georgia, USA.

Zac joined Birla Carbon in 2013, as a Product Scientist in the Rubber Carbon Black Product Design & Development team, where he held various positions with responsibilities focused on new products and customer engagement. In 2018, he spearheaded Birla Carbon’s new product expansion into the global battery energy storage market, ultimately leading the Energy Systems team as Director, Research & Development, starting in 2021.

Zac has more than 13 years of experience in the carbon black industry, all at Birla Carbon, focused on developing reinforcing and conductive products for the tire, plastics, coatings, inks, and battery industries. His research and development interests include morphology, surface modification, and microstructure of carbon blacks and other carbon materials, as related to structure-property relationships in critical applications.

Zac holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Science degree in Polymer Chemistry from Clemson University. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society.
