Birla Carbon Weifang (BCW) conducted a series of community initiatives in Zhang Cheng Village which is close to the plant, demonstrating the plant’s commitment to the sustainable development of rural communities through tangible efforts.

Sharing his thoughts on these initiatives, the Unit Head, Birla Carbon Weifang mentioned that “At Birla Carbon Weifang, our commitment to community well-being goes beyond business. By fostering safety awareness and providing tangible support, we aim to enrich lives and build trust with our neighbors. These initiatives reflect our focus areas of care, responsibility, and sustainable growth, ensuring we create a safer and warmer environment for everyone.”

Cultural murals instill a safety-conscious spirit in the beautiful countryside

BCW employees along with other professionals took up brushes and transformed the village’s eight exterior walls into vibrant canvases. Among these, the most prominent was the safety mascot painted by employees. Featuring the Birla Carbon safety mascot – Xiang – the mural vividly conveyed essential safety messages through engaging visual storytelling. Each brushstroke reinforced public awareness of safety, effectively establishing an intuitive and lasting psychological safeguard among residents, earning widespread appreciation from the local community.

Warmth and protection: Enhancing community safety for the winter

During the intense winters, some of the BCW employees went to the Zhang Cheng Village to launch the ‘Warmth and Protection’ initiative, that was aimed at –

• Ensuring respiratory safety: The team provided free installation and calibration of carbon monoxide detectors for 17 households with residents aged 80 years and above. The reassuring beep of each activated alarm symbolized both technological protection and the company’s heartfelt care.
• Illuminating a safe passage: During their weekend rest time, BCW’s maintenance personnel collaborated with the village electricians to conduct a comprehensive inspection of the community’s outdoor lighting system, ensuring that all streetlights functioned properly and supported a safe night-time travel for villagers.

These initiatives have been recognized and commended by the local sub-district government office. Through these actions, BCW has improved the physical environment and mitigated potential safety risks along with delivering meaningful social value and care to the local residents, reinforcing Birla Carbon’s purpose to Share the Strength.
