To recognize and promote ideas on Sustainability, Birla Carbon Egypt, initiated an annual competition titled – ‘Towards A Sustainable Tomorrow’ for the graduating university students of the faculty of Engineering, at Pharos University, Alexandria, Egypt.
Through the competition, students were encouraged to research, and relate their graduation projects to sustainability topics in creative ways. Share the Strength is not just limited to the workplace but towards sustainable livelihood as well. Faculty professors from the university, along with Mr Atef El Ashy from Birla Carbon Egypt, reviewed the submissions made by students. A total of eight projects were presented and the panel selected the top three. At a ceremony held earlier this year, the students received their awards.
The winning projects showed interesting research on their respective topics addressing the principle of sustainability through various forms. The projects included a solution to ‘Treating oily wastewater using ceramic membranes’, ‘Generating electricity from speed bumps’ and ‘Photovoltaic as a path to a sustainable future’.
Among the award ceremony attendees were the President of the Pharos University; KTH Royal Institute in Stockholm and the dean of the faculty of Engineering.
