Birla Carbon Spain and AMARA Cantabria launch a special book
on childhood cancer

On April 1, 2019, Birla Carbon Spain and AMARA Cantabria launched a special book on childhood cancer. This book is the result of the yearlong effort that was put in by both sides when Birla Carbon Spain had joined AMARA Cantabria in early 2018, by becoming their allied partner. Birla Carbon Spain sponsored the complete edition of the children’s story book with illustrations to talk about childhood cancer, with children who suffer from it, with affected families and with schools.

Speaking at the unveiling, Javier Tazón, HR Manager, Birla Carbon Spain said, “Birla Carbon has always believed in giving back to the society in which it operates, as companies cannot act with their backs to the people. Our effort towards the sponsorship of this book is a step towards being purpose-led and sharing our strength that goes beyond just manufacturing, technological innovation and sustainability. The entire journey with AMARA Cantabria has truly been an enriching experience for all of us.”

He further adds how, “When AMARA approached us, we felt that it was our moral duty to assist parents who deal with such difficult situations in their lives. This is a moment of pride for us at Birla Carbon Spain, for having contributed towards the successful materialization of this important initiative.”

It is interesting to note that Birla Carbon’s efforts towards cancer treatment started a few years ago, when it sponsored a young researcher from the Institute of Biomedicine and Biotechnology of Cantabria (IBBTEC), who was able to continue her work in the field of cancer research. This money was raised by the plant workers at Birla Carbon Spain and was duplicated by the company, in order to finance their salary for the entire year.

At the event, AMARA Cantabria provided 100 copies of the book to Birla Carbon Spain in recognition for their efforts
