Birla Carbon Italy provides scholarship to school students

Together, with two other companies from the San Martino di Trecate chemical hub, Birla Carbon Italy (BCI) supported three students from the high school G. Omar Industrial Technical Institute of Novara, with a scholarship for a n innovative project called MAD 63 Airguardians. The project involved the detection and removal of PFAS (Perfluoroalkyl substances) pollutants and microplastics from air and water.

The project has been selected to represent Italy at the International Exhibition for Young Inventors, scheduled for August 6 – 8, 2025, in Osaka, Japan, as part of EXPO 2025. It has already received a prestigious national award from FAST – Foundation of Scientific and Technical Associations – and has received strong support from Birla Carbon Italy and two other local companies: Esseco and SARPOM.

Speaking about this scholarship, the unit General Manager, Birla Carbon Italy, said, “We thank the G. Omar Industrial Technical Institute of Novara, its teachers, and especially Maddalena, Alessio, and Diego, for their ingenuity and creativity, which are expressed in the MAD 63 AirGuardians project. Elements like training, building a culture of innovation and collaboration for a more sustainable future, are part of Birla Carbon’s ‘Share the Future’ sustainability strategy. These form our roadmap towards achieving the goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2050. BCI looks forward to supporting the project at the upcoming Osaka Expo as well.”

The students presented their project and findings to local institutions and the companies that supported them at a press conference, which was organized at the school.
